Schooldays

There’s a phrase “Everyday’s a school day” which I love with its implication that every day is an opportunity to learn something, to develop.

I said this once to a client who said along the lines “Oh my goodness, I certainly hope not.  I hated school, just hated it.

Isn’t it the truth for us all  that it’s personal context dependent?

I loved my school days.  Made great friends, had laughter and tears with more laughter, picked up a few qualifications and off I went into the world.

See if you can spot me below 🙋🏼‍♀️

My client said how she never felt part of things and was bullied.  Bad scenes and ones which can really stay with you too.

It’s something for us all to be aware of when we, like I did, rattle off a well-known phrase.

The other person may not share your experience at all.  If anything have a polar opposite thought about it and withdraw slightly from you as a result.

Just as, for example, where you love to go on holiday, what you love to eat, what your favourite exercise is, who your ideal partner is etc etc.

This isn’t meant to say you can’t express an opinion or have a preference, of course it’s not.  What I want to suggest is to be more conscious that your opinion is, simply, just that.  Yours.  And we’re all different in so many ways whilst seeming the same…

And, on that note, I’m off to London today to gather with 7 school friends from the photo above.

We’re celebrating birthdays, connections and no doubt Champagne will be involved.

A final word on the matter…

We meet aliens every day who have something to give us.  They come in the form of people with different opinions.”         ~ William Shatner.

And in other news…

Last Friday I took 3 friends from my insurance broking days for lunch at The Ritz in London.  It had been something I’d wanted to do for ages to celebrate our friendship of over 30 years.  We didn’t run out of conversations and I went fast asleep on the train home…

As a bit of a bling-spotter to say the least, the combination of a beautiful 1961 silver Rolls Royce Corniche AND the British Grand Prix Gold Trophy caught my eye last week at dinner.  Talk about bling-a-ding-ding.
