Celebration

So how are you going to celebrate Kay?” was the question which immediately made me stop in my tracks!

I’d just told a client group how I’d finished a 6 month contract working with Board Directors and all sessions had to be scheduled and delivered by 31st March.  Phew.

It was quite intense towards the end with sometimes 3 sessions a day – not complaining, just giving you context – which was full on and, at times, exhausting…

Instead of thinking that I’d just head straight on to the next thing, catch up with all the things which had been bubbling in the background recently, I had actually planned my celebration time.

As women, we tend to literally jump from one set of deadlines and delivery requirements (at home just as at work) without taking a breath.

I had planned my pause knowing I’d need to AND wanted to.

  • No private client calls for the week
  • Only catch up work which was necessary rather than interesting
  • AND a whole afternoon of beauty pampering!

It was just what I needed and would have been what I’d have recommended to a friend or client BUT not what we would normally ‘allow’ ourselves.

This is a mistake.

To take a little time out to acknowledge an achievement or commitment is to give yourself a break.  Literally, a break.

So, my questions to you today are:

  • What can you do to give yourself a pat on the back for a job completed?
  • How can you acknowledge and celebrate the commitment, energy you’ve invested?
  • What would you treat someone else to which you can treat yourself to instead which you bring something home or ‘in to land’, as I say…

A client is starting a new role today.  I’m hoping she’ll celebrate this evening having confidently jumped into the world of work again by attracting a new role AND negotiating for the terms before accepting.  Cause for a celebration indeed!

It was Mothers’ Day here last weekend and whilst our Mum died over 20 years ago now, my sis and I still know what she’d tell us to do and still quote her.  “Now what you want to do is…”
