We all know what we should do and we’re very good at telling others what they should do too but…hmmm – do we take our own advice?
As I asked a client the question “What would you tell another professional, senior woman to do about this?” she didn’t hesitate to tell me all the things this other woman should do…
- She should tell her boss what’s going on
- She should face down the person who keeps taking all the credit for her work
- She should stop trying to be so nice and bring her badass to work with her
- etc…
You get the idea – it’s so easy when it’s not you.
But, if we know all this and really know the answer, so why don’t we just turn it on to ourselves?
Because it’s hard.
Because we need to be tougher.
Because we might not be liked.
Because we’ve tried before and it didn’t work.
Because, because, because…
I, we, you – must stop being the guru for everyone else and start paying more attention to what we dish out and serve it to ourselves.
Sometimes I will literally ask myself “Come on Kay, what would you tell someone else to do about this?” and with the response (there always is one by the way) I say out aloud “well go on then, do it” Whatever it is.
No one wants to drink or take their own medicine but it’s so worth it because we know far more than we let ourselves know and we can trust ourselves more than we do.
Let’s listen more to our own advice…instead of dishing it out, take it!
Or in someone else’s words…

I am still in the zone of being a patient patient with some of my recent health issues AND am so much better too. Patience is a virtue and one I’m practicing getting better at!
