The threads still there

You know when you’ve arranged to do something and then, at the last minute you often question if you still want to do it?

I had that exact feeling last Saturday morning.

Having met up with a big group of school friends at a reunion in November, a spin-off group of 8 of us decided to meet for lunch in February.  Last Saturday.

Lunch in London for 8 of us (which turned into 7 due to a positive Covid test).

The effort of it all – dressing up (!) and taking the train, being in town, chatting and not being at home (it’s so not me to think like this but that’s the habit I’ve got into).

But.  Off I went and – as is inevitably the case  – had wonderful time.

6 straight hours of chatting, laughing, sipping wine and Champagne, sharing, getting teary, posing next to a rare Ferrari and then – phew – hopping into a cab and coming home.

When I got home I said to my husband Snowy “I’ve literally run out of words“.  That’s rare!

Here’s the thing though.

We all made a big effort to be together.  Long train rides for some, rescheduled plans for others but the thread’s still there .

The fun we had a school, why we liked each other then, how we remember each other AND how interested we still are in what we’re all doing.  We’ve arranged a Summer one now!

Very special.

  • Do you have something on your horizon you’re hesitant about going to?
  • Are you wondering if it’s worth the effort?
  • Will you be missed if you don’t go?
  • What would you say to someone else feeling like this?

I’m so pleased to have shown up and been part of it all . As a career woman you’ll have many opportunities to show up and I encourage you to choose carefully.

As an introvert with extrovert tendencies I can only do so much ‘social chitterchat‘ before I have to go quiet.

I’m OK with that and – in my 50s – everyone else has to be OK with that too!

 In other news…
