When a client said it to me I knew exactly what she meant along the lines of
“Sometimes Kay you just have to wave the white flag, surrender and give in to the moment rather than fight it or fight on…“
I knew exactly what she meant and I’m sure you do too.
There are days when whatever you do or try to do, things go wrong, don’t work, get misunderstood, upset you or someone else and you have that sense of ‘Enough”.
Well this week has had its moments like that for me and for a number of clients, friends and family. All in the same week? Is there something in the air or water?
I don’t know the answer to that one but what I do know is this.
There can come a point of diminishing return.
When you keep pouring more energy or putting even more focus on or into something and it just doesn’t shift the dial. It just doesn’t work. There’s no gain.
That’s when the white flag starts to come to mind. Surrender.
Going home, logging off, leaving the meeting, going to bed – whatevercomes to mind for you when you think of surrender, sometimes it is the only – and right – thing to do.
- It gives you perspective to look at things from a distance
- It enables you to regroup your energy and focus for another go/day
- It feels as if making the decision to stop, walk away is empowering

Whilst I know this might sound defeatist to you, I would suggest it’s kind of the opposite.
- It’s brave.
- It takes courage to say “enough”.
- It makes for change when you “pull the plug” as it’s been called.
So let me leave that with you. Let it be.
Or in someone else’s words…

Douglas had a busy old day and found his favourite chair without my normal ‘dog off’ guard on it! So he surrendered to his fatigue 🥰
